It happened in Darien at the intersection of Hollow Tree Ridge Road and Allowed Road around 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17.
Responding officers found a six-wheeled dump truck that left the roadway while negotiating the curve and came to a rest against a rock wall and adjacent trees, the Darien Police Department said.
Police said that based on the scene, it is likely the driver struck a tree before the truck came to a rest.
The driver and a passenger both suffered severe injuries in the crash, were treated at the scene, then transported to Stamford Hospital for further evaluation.
According to police, “due to the severity of the injuries sustained by the occupants of the truck, the Darien Police Accident Investigation Team (AIT) responded to the area to reconstruct the scene."
The incident remains under investigation by the AIT.
